Use of images on the web |
|
| use of images on the internet
is nothing new. people have been adding photos to their web
sites since the beginning. photos if used correctly can ad
to and enhance the look of your site. over use of photos can
spell disaster and severally effect the success of your website.
bigger is not better when it comes to the graphics design of
your website. users with slow internet connection suffer when it
takes over an hour to load your webpage. those users will simply
move onto another website ignoring yours. try to keep your
images smaller. using smaller images and reuse of them can
reduce the amount of time it takes to load. |

image formats |
|
|
images come in many formats suitable for use on the internet.
the most widely use format is the GIF. while it is the most
popular the other formats commonly used are the JPG & PNG. the
GIF, JPG, PNG have compression built in. a compressed file can
not be displayed until it has decompressed. in general it takes
longer for a JPG to decompress so that it can be displayed. the
JPG has a much more complicated form of compression. the PNG is
relatively new. it has been out since 1995 and has gained in
popularity with web developers. it was intended to totally
replace the GIF. |

| the need for commercial photos
has been around for some time now. web Publishers, advertising
agencies, graphic artists, and others use stock photography to
fulfill their need for graphics. hiring a commercial
photographer can be costly. stock photo sites have cropped up
all over the internet offer low cost photos. because of
copyright laws in the US you can not simply take photos from
other websites and use them. you must pay royalties to the
